Lakshmibai College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi and is well-connected through several metro stations and bus-routes. The college is proud of its red-brick buildings, lawns adorned with trees and flowers, well-maintained sports grounds, staff-quarters, wireless Internet access  under the University Wide Networking Programme, separate Internet connectivity, supplementary audio-video gadgets, two air conditioned lecture theatres, a furnished seminar room, a modern fully automated library using Libsys software, two well-equipped computer labs and an active placement cell.  The library has undergone renovation and now has its own computer unit catering to the students and teaching faculty. The library is fully automated and is endowed with OPAC and scanner-guns for greater efficiency. The college is inclusive in its intent and actions , therefore SAFA is loaded on the systems of the computer lab for differently-abled students to help them learn typing skills. Wi-Fi connectivity has also been provided to the lab.

 

The University of Delhi has provided free lap-tops to all FYUP students and generated E-mail Ids for all of them. The institution has purchased original ORACLE IOG /IIG /WINDOWS 2000 server edition and online examination forms are handled through the DUCC Wi-Fi networking programme to ensure transparency.

 

Lakshmibai College is proud of its extremely committed faculty. Our teachers spend considerable time with their students, catering to their academic needs and honing their skills. The educators of this college believe that their job does not end at merely bookish concerns. They constantly endeavour to bring out the best in their students.Lakshmibai College is a constituent college of the University of Delhi that provides higher education to women only. It was established in 1965 and named in honour of Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi, the fearless warrior and patriot. The college is run by the Government of Delhi, and is located in the neighborhood of Ashok Vihar. It has multiple departments, including Bengali, Commerce, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Home Science (Food technology & Apparel Design and Construction), Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Political Science, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Sociology. It offers courses in the Humanities, Social Science and Commerce at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to the three year long BA and BCom (Hons) courses. Undergraduate students can also enroll in a BA (Pass) and BCom (Pass) courses. Masters in Arts are offered with specializations in Philosophy, Political Science and Sanskrit.

 

The college has a library with a reading room. A college magazine is released annually, and students can contribute write-ups to the same in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Bengali and Punjabi. The college also provides NCC (National Cadet Corp) to the students.

 

To name a few of the  many academic accomplishments of the faculty: the Principal, Dr. Veena Gautam delivered a lecture at the Refresher Course organised by the Women’s Studies and Development Center, CPDHE entitled— Loriyon ke madhyam se Nari Hriday ki Abhibyakti. She has also to her credit a publication entitled— Bharatiya Lori Sahitya   and has co-authored three books namely—(i) Bharatiya Lori Sahitya, (ii) Bharatiya Bal Sahitya Kosh and (iii) Bharatiya Lori- Sahitya Kosh.

 

Then, Dr. Sucheta Chaturvedi, of the Dept. of English, has been awarded a Ph.D degree for her doctoral thesis on Representation of V iolence Against Women in Post-colonial Indian Writing by University of Delhi.

 

Lakshmibai College organized a two-day UGC-sponsored National Conference on E-Business: Issues and Challenges in Indian Perspective.

 

Dr. Raj Nangia presented a paper at the Asian Conference on Corporate Governance and Business Sustainability at Bangkok, Thailand in October 2013. Dr. Lata Sharma published an article on “Operational Aspects of E-commerce in Manufacturing Companies of India” in Journal of Business Thought. Dr. Anita Malhotra co-authored a book, Food Science, Nutrition and Safety, Pearson 2014; authored a paper in Journal of Obesity and Metabolic Research 2014. Dr. Poornima Talwar co-authored a book entitled Human Resource Management 2014.

 

Lt. Dr. Seema Kaushik presented and published an array of papers/articles. She presented a paper at the National Seminar on Fitness and Wellness held at LNUPE Gwalior in February 2014. She has made the college proud by representing India in the 20th World Masters’ Athletics Meet held in Brazil in October 2013; secured four gold medals and one silver medal in the 34th National Masters’ Championship at Sree Kanteerva Stadium , Bangalore.

 

Ms. Ruchi Ahuja has developed and uploaded E-content on Incorporation of Limited Liability Partnership for ILLL. Dr. M.P Yadav has: (i) published three books on Comparative Indian Literature, Disability Literature and Translation Studies; and (ii) is Member Advisor, Board of Research Studies, Department of Modern Indian Language and Literary Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Delhi.

 

Mr. Rammathot Khongreiwo brought out a book entitled Raids, Customary Laws and Slavery: Re-interpreting pre-colonial Naga Warfare, NMML Teen Marti 2014.

 

In total 3,900 undergraduate and 31 postgraduate students were enrolled in the previous academic year 2013-2014. Students are always encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extra- curricular activities organized by various departments and societies. Here is a quick glance at the activities organized in the previous academic year: the Dept. of English organized a Theatre Workshop (March 2014) in collaboration with the Pandies Theatre Group; the students performed Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of an Anarchist.  Sanskrit Literary Society held three Inter-class and  two Inter- college Competitions. Dept. of Music organized a one-day educational workshop Dhrupad (March 2014). Dept. of Food Technology organized an exhibition-cum-sale of their products in March 2014. Dept. of Economics held a seminar on Gender and Inequality. Dept. of Commerce organized a seminar on: (i) Fall of the Indian Rupee and its Consequence in 2013; (ii) Taxation and Investment in 2014; and (iii) held its annual fest Comspect in 2014. These are, needless to say, only a few of the academic/ co-curricular/extra-curricular activities among the many others.

 

A few words about the mighty Sports Dept. of the College—Lakshmibai College has become one of the two top women’s colleges of the University of Delhi as far as representations in Sports are concerned. Students have fared extremely well in the All India Inter University; North Zone Inter University; Central Zone Inter University; Delhi State/Women’s Festival; District Level Tournaments; Open Tournaments etc. Our students have won a total of 124 medals including 40 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals in the previous session.

 

With 149 enrolled Cadets, the National Cadets Corps, or NCC, continued scaling new heights during 2013-2014. Six of them boarded the GYANODAYA express under the supervision of Dr. Geeta Sahare and Dr. Sushma Aggarwal. 73 Cadets attended the CATC held at Bhakkargarh and stood second in the drill at   ANTARDHWANI,the Annual Cultural Festival of DU. The National Service Scheme, or NSS, enrolled 300 students during 2013-2014. Many of these students have worked with NGOs like Asha Deep Foundation and Goonj

 

GEC is concious that majority of the students have a dream to join a job after they passout. We understand that job should be given to the students when they are in their final year.

 

Headed by one of the most dynamic, aggressive, result oriented placement chief Prof. Rabindra P. Choudhury , Director (T & P), who has impeccable repute of 10 years of brilliant performance in Placement, supported by a battery of placement executives retained at various strategic locations of the country (placement hubs), the placement cell of GEC is confident of finding ample and appropriate jobs for its students…….better than any other engineering college.

 

The Training & placement Cell is commited to provide all possible assistance to its graduates in their efforts to find employment. This commitment is demonstrated by the existence of a full time professor in charge. The Training & Placement service operates year round to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates. Staffs are available to respond to student’s question and concern of all kinds. This may include advice on placement procedures help with preparation of applications and resumes and practice for interviews.
